[NOTE: Spoon-Announcements is not a list; it's a mechanism for distributing
information of potentially general interest to all subscribers of the Spoon
Collective's mailing lists without bombarding them with cross-postings.]

(Heather Wagner, Lisa Delillo, and Alan Sondheim are running the multi-
media portion of this. We will also accept websites, if they reflect
coherent experiment work; the entrance fee still applies.

~ ANIMATION ~ DOCUMENTARY ~ EXPERIMENTAL ~ NARRATIVE
                 ~ NEW DIGITAL MULTIMEDIA

New York's premiere showcase for cutting-edge and classic
independent shorts seeks animation, documentary, experimental
and narrative works under 60 minutes in length, as well as
digital multi-media works of any size. The New York Expo, now
in its 30th year, is one of the nation's longest-running annual
festivals of short independent film and video. Over the years,
the Expo has sought out and presented the best of the new --
conceptually advanced, technically innovative, thematically
challenging, and unconventional non-commercial films and videos
-- works that may have a difficult time finding a venue. This
year, the Expo will also embrace the exciting new medium of
digital multi-media.

Finalist works are screened for the public and the New York
film/video community at The New School in Greenwich Village,
and are seen by distributors and exhibitors in this major media
market. Selected finalist works will tour to other venues.
The 1996 New York Expo will feature panels and sidebar
screenings, with digital multi-media works to be presented at
Cyberfeld, an internet cafe.

First, Second, and Third Place awards are granted in each
category, plus Eastman Kodak prizes of filmstock. Judges for
the Expo have included academy award-winning directors, noted
independents, and eminent scholars and critics. The Expo is
supported by the New York State Council on the Arts, Eastman
Kodak, Home Box Office, and the New York Film/Video Council,
among others.

The Expo seeks films/videos completed since 1994; CD-ROMs since
1992. Student and international entries are welcome. Public
screening formats: 16mm and 3/4" NTSC video only; 35mm and
Super 8 films are shown in video projection. Preview on 3/4"
or 1/2" video, NTSC only; CD-ROMs in Mac or PC format. Entry
fee: $35. Entry Deadline: July 1, 1996.
