>Monroeville Alabama, the childhood home of Harper Lee, Truman Capote, and
Mark Childress, will be the site of a conference on Alabama literature of
the past, present, and future.  The conference will bring together Alabama
writers and literary scholars for a three-day celebration and discussion of
Alabama's literary heritage.  Hosted by Alabama Southern College, the
conference will feature readings and lectures by Mark Childress, Charles
McNair, Judith Richards, and other writers and scholars.  
>The organizers invite scholars with interests in Alabama literature or
orality to participate in the conference.  Proposals for papers on any
aspect of Alabama's literary heritage are welcome.  Abstracts, not to
exceed two pages, should be submitted to Dr. Stephen Criswell, Alabama
Southern College, P.O. Box 2000, Monroeville, Alabama 36461 or via email at
SCRISWELL-AT-ascc.edu.  Deadline for abstracts is March 15, 1998.
