CALL FOR PAPERS
__________________________

for the inaugural issue of

T E Z C A T L I P O C A

_Tezcatlipoca_ is a new, independent electronic journal that will feature
essays, articles, and research relating to Chicana/o Studies. The journal
is dedicated
to the presentation of original work of the highest caliber and to the
advancement of the field of Chicana/o Studies. The journal’s primary focus is
on critical analysis, theory, and research relating to Chicana/o history,
culture, literature and art, and to the Chicana/o experience in general.

_Tezcatlipoca_ will be published in one volume per academic year, adding new
articles to current volumes twice yearly. A selection of the best articles
appearing in a given volume may be published in print form at the end of the
academic year.

The journal will include a general section, a polemics section (Rayo), a
history section, a culture section (including literature and art), a
section on myth,
a book review section, and a working glossary of Chicana/o language (e.g.
Calo,
Pocho, Pachuco, etc.).

Editor-in-Chief: Prospero Saiz
Associate Editor: Jesus Salas
Managing Editor: Ingrid Swanberg
Consulting Editor: Patrick Roney

The editors invite scholarly papers and well-researched articles in history,
the social sciences, the arts and the humanities, and book reviews. We
particularly welcome contributions to the feature section, "Rayo", which will
include polemics, letters, and dialogues by _Tezcatlipoca_ readers. "Rayo"
will
offer readers a space for polemics, incisive critique, the airing of
differences,
responses to previously published _Tezcatlipoca_ articles, and dialogue. We
wish
to emphasize our call for contributions to the Chicana/o glossary, which
aims to
gather a full lexicon of Chicana/o words -- perhaps for the first time.
Please
include definitions and variance with submissions to Glossary & Terms
(any number of submissions to Glossary & Terms is welcome).

Deadline for the inaugural issue: November 30, 1999

Articles: up to 20 double-spaced, typed pages (10 - 11 point type); number
pages; end notes only.

Book reviews: up to 4 double-spaced, typed pages (10-11 point type); number
pages; end notes only. Include full book title, author(s), editor(s),
edition, publisher, place of publication, number of pages, cost for hard
back and
paperback editions, and ISBN.

Your name and address must appear on the first page of your submission.
Please send 2 copies of all hard copy submissions.

Formatting: Highly preferred: .wpd, .doc, .pdf or .html formats. Submissions
sent on diskettes must be accompanied by 2 printed copies. (Please inquire
first about email submissions to: Ingrid Swanberg, Managing Editor,
iswanbe-AT-tezcatlipoca.org
or through the address given below.)

Submissions of entries for the glossary or to the "Rayo" section should
follow the same formatting guidelines as articles and book reviews.

Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope large enough to accommodate return
of your manuscript, or, if you don’t wish your manuscript to be returned, send
only a standard (#10) letter sized self-addressed, stamped envelope for our
reply.

Publication in _Tezcatlipoca_ is determined by the editors, with possible
review
by an outside expert in a relevant field. Consulting editors will be announced
as special projects arise. If submitting previously published material,
please
identify publisher, date of publication, and copyright holder. Address all
submissions and inquiries to:
