To unsub, send the message "unsubscribe spoon-announcements" to majordomo-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu] SUNY Binghamton graduate students invite submissions for: CROSSING THE BOUNDARIES IX An Inter-Disciplinary Graduate Student Conference March 30-April 1, 2001 SUNY Binghamton Binghamton, New York This year^Òs conference will focus on: ^ÓVagabond- Somewhere to Run to, Nowhere to Hide^Ô The collective of the 9th annual Crossing The Boundaries Conference invites members from various cultural spaces and different academic disciplines to examine the issues of cultural groups/ individuals who travel for a myriad reasons and motivations. Some possible themes: - Accounts of exploration and expedition - Crusades - Pilgrimages: secular and religious - Tourists/tourism - The refugee experience - Nomads - Collectors and collectibles - The flâneur - The Hobo - Traveling salespeople - Migrant workers - Issues of immigration/emigration - The ^ÓGrand Tour^Ô - Homelessness - Rites of passage We invite paper and panel proposals, and encourage creative, informal, and interactive presentations (e.g. video, performance art, installations, interactive multimedia, etc^Å). Completed panel proposals are encouraged and enthusiastically received. This conference has been established and is run by graduate students. Abstracts should be submitted along with a C.V., a separate listing of name, paper title, institutional and department affiliation, preferred mailing address, phone number, and email address. As well, include a self-addressed stamped envelope for any materials you would like returned to you (portfolios, discs, video tapes, etc.). Although January 15 is the submission deadline, earlier submissions are highly encouraged!
