Keynote Speakers:

University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

Shelly Kagan

The theme of the 29th Conference on Value Inquiry is Crime, Punishment and
Responsibility. Areas of investigation for the conference include, but are
not limited to: social, moral, legal, political, economic, environmental,
religious, and aesthetic values, the teaching of values, and the resolution
of conflicts between competing values and between theory and practice.

Papers addressing any issue relevant to value inquiry may be submitted, but
of particular interest are papers that concern criminal wrongdoing, moral
wrongdoing, punishment, civil authority, and the nature of responsibility.

Papers may be theoretically or practically oriented. They may focus on
issues within a single area of value inquiry, may range over issues
relating
to different areas of value inquiry, or may be interdisciplinary and
address
issues relating to both evaluative and non-evaluative matters. Papers
should be limited to approximately twenty minutes reading time, or roughly
3500 words. Presented papers will be considered for publication.

Submit two copies of a 500 word abstract by mail to Lawrence Pasternack at
the address below. Include your name, institution, address, telephone
number and e-mail address on a separate cover page. Your abstract should
be
prepared for blind reviewing.

Abstracts due: January 22, 2001 (postmark date). Early submissions are
encouraged.

The Conference is hosted by Oklahoma State University's Department of
Philosophy and will be held at the Doubletree, an upscale, full service
hotel, located in the heart of Tulsa's downtown business and entertainment
district. Room rates will be $69 per night. The hotel provides free
transportation to and from Tulsa International Airport.
