Special Issue -- Fall 2003 (Volume 6, Issue 2):

TOPIC:  ADDICTION

Deadline for submissions: April 15, 2003.

Janus Head is a bi-annual interdisciplinary journal that
explores the intersections among continental philosophy,
phenomenological psychology, literature and art.
The  journal features theoretical essays, qualitative
studies, short fiction, poetry, and art.

The editors are seeking submissions on the topic of
addiction to be featured in the Fall 2003 special issue.

Topics may include but are not limited to:

- Interpretive and descriptive phenomenological analyses
of addictions
- Cultural differences and addiction
- The social construction of addiction
- Historical analyses of addiction (e.g., metabletics,
genealogy)
- Psychoanalytic, existential/phenomenological and/or
postmodern approaches to understanding and/or treating
addiction
- Critical theory and addiction
- Short fiction or poetry in which addiction is thematic
- Addiction and embodiment
- Addiction and the desiring subject
- Narrative approaches to addiction
- Metaphors of addiction
- Addiction and gender
- Addiction and social class
- Work and addiction
- Love and addiction
- Religion and addiction
- Analyses of fictional accounts of addiction

Guidelines for Submissions

Janus Head follows APA guidelines for its review process
(peer review):

In general, Janus Head editors and reviewers look for
work that speaks to the Janus Head attitude of
"respect and openness to the various manifestations of
truth in human experience and the fostering of
understanding through meditative thinking, narrative
structure, and poetic imagination."

CRITERIA FOR ESSAYS: Submissions should be no
longer than 7000 words (about 28 pages or shorter).
Please include a cover letter, a short biography, and
correspondence information. Works should be typed
and double-spaced. Format requirements:
APA or MLA styles (footnotes should be placed at the
end of paper). Submit one disk and two (2) copies to
the address below. Email submissions will not be
accepted!

CRITERIA FOR SHORT FICTION & POETRY:
Please include a cover letter, a short biography, and
correspondence information.  Short fiction should be typed
and double-spaced and should be no longer than 7000 words
(about 28 pages or shorter). Poetry should be typed in the
format in which it should be printed.  Three to five poems are
the suggested number for poetry submissions. Submit one disk
and two (2) copies to the address below. Poetry, if 300 words
or less, may be sent via email as an attached Word document
(please include full correspondence address).

CRITERIA FOR ARTWORK: We are seeking artists for
submissions of portfolios to feature in the journal.
Photos, slides, and/or electronic images are the preferred
formats. Please email the editors if you have any questions.

If your submission does not follow these guidelines, it will
not be reviewed.

NOTE:
1. Please include a SASE if you would like your materials
returned to you.
2. Copyright reverts back to the author upon publication.
Janus Head reserves the right to re-print the work for
promotional purposes, retrospective anthologies or other
special print editions of the journal.
3. Contributors will receive a complimentary copy of the issue
in which their work appears.
