Hi Frank it seems you have to understand what i said before maybe due i don`t explain correctly about that. I don`t need to ask them to allow me because they already did it. However Jorgen said that in his opinion (as you said the place that they give me is not good enough and unadequate for the kind of work i made (when i made this in Lisbon, together with my wife, normally tourists refuse to buy my work in painting and ceramics and sometimes even they are very indiferent, see the plate i sent to you bellow, this is an example and many times some of them told me "well, may be very interesting, i don`t know, but i`ll never put such work on the walls of my home". On the oposite side some people that comes to Portugal for cultural reasons (well, cultural in a large sense) stays very surprised to see us and likes totalk with us about all the matters including what surrealism is and the situation of poetry and the artists in the present times. That` what i tried to make in Copenhagen 96 and find people that bought me art work and would like to see me again but Jorgen saids that the place they destinate me is not good enough for my kind of work (i repeat, not for tourists) and other places the police (even during Copenhagen 96) could stop us. In 1992 during an workshop on the street i was arrested by the police (they brought 3 vans and more than 10 men) and kept me during about three hours. Despite my arrest i said them i ll come back there when we wish because is also our job put poetry and free creative work out of the conventional spaces, etc. My wife that was there but was not arrested sent some cables to our friends (Nicolau and others) and also to the mayor and some departments of the city hall. They was forced to free me and some days later i come back there again. Here i can do it and face the police but Dennmark is a foreign country for me and i wouldn`t like to cause any troubles to my friends and nice people in the organization of "Copenhagen 96" that tried to support us from the begining. So, i decided do not go there and try to stand the other idea advised by Jorgen - to join a group of surrealist artists (and other artists) and join them at the Roskilde Museum in 1997 or 1998 because accordingly Jorgen they are opened to this kind of exhibitions with foreign artists (this year precisely they have an exhibition of portuguese sculptors, i know a few of them, that works in Evora, in the south of Portugal. Jorgen has a country house in Odemira (near that region) and comes periodically to Portugal. So i could talk regularly with him aboutthis project. (unfortunately, at the moment, he has no computer and any connection to Net). I could join one or two more from here and the others from here could join also the same (one to three from England, from USA etc.). In Roskilde Museum they need only elements concerning the exhibition and so I ll need that the other companions send me catalogues or something about them and about those they invite. Of course it will be not a surrealist exhibition (Jorgen is not a surrealist artist but he appreciates surrealism too) but could include many surrealist artists. Maybe we could put that exhibition also on the Web. We have time to prepare it. The >situation in Roskilde (even though it is only about 50 km >froms the capital) is likely to be quite different. > Who did you intend to work with in Copenhagen? As the organization obliged that any artist must to have an hostess well, Jorgen offered me his home and studio to work there despite our work be very different. He makes large works (conceptual, minimal,post-modernism?) in ceramics and also wants to work in marble. Recently when Jorgen comes to Lisbon (last March) i was already very decided to stay here and don`t go now. >Unfortunately I don't know Jorgen Fenger but I know 2 or 3 >artists in Copenhagen who could all be classified as more or >less surrealist, and there is also a poet in the other end of the >country. I can send you their addresse if you wish. yes please, send me their addresses and if you are opened to that you can even also write them about the idea. Of course Jorgen could stay in charge of making the contacts with the direction of the Museum (because he is living there and because it was him that was the first to remind me this possibility and talked with them). Here on the group i could personnaly take in charge the rest of the work (collect the catalogues and other elements - -suggestions, etc. and sent to the Museum). You, Frank (sorry, i don`t know if you are painter or poet or if you can do this job) you could keep in touch with other surrealists in Dennmark that was interested to participate. WARNING sorry, i forgot to say that Roskilde Museum (if they accepted whole project) they pay all the expenses with sending the works and all expences envolved. > Also, there is a very interesting little gallery, >"Kunstkorridoren Naadada", on Norrebrogade (can't >remember the number but is between the lakes and the >cemetary if you get there). It is run by a very friendly bunch of >people who are very interested in all aspects of art (they >have poetry readings, film screenings and performances -- >all free -- besides a normal gallery and a cafe). well, maybe you could contact them for another project, no? Maybe in this case a surrealist exhibition there (not universal of course, but an international group of a few artists), that could includes also poetry reading, pefomances by members of the group, etc. What you say ? Can you contact them or you prefer to send me ther names and addresse and i contact them ? Or both things ? > Anyway, good luck with your project. And if you'll >be in Denmark later this year, maybe we could meet? > Frank Many thanks and regards carlos http://www.openart.com/artistes/martins/accueil.htm
