First of all, the "current" file is currently almost 1.5 megabytes long, which may strain some people's disk space. We (spoons) should chip it into more manageable chunks. Secondly, the majordomo "get" command delivers the file to you in a form which makes it impossible to appply a mail program to it so as to read it as a bunch of separate mail messages -- the way you read your incoming mail. In contrast, if you get the "current" file (or any other archive mail file) using FTP, you can then read it in Pine or another mail program as if it was a regular mail folder. (I hope I am able to make sense here.) So let me tell you how to do it via FTP. Type ftp jefferson.village.virginia.edu When asked for the login ID, type anonymous When asked for the password, type your e-mail address. This should get you into the jefferson machine, and you should get the FTP prompt (which, I think, is "ftp>"). Type cd pub/pubs/listservs/spoons/surrealist.archive and, after you receive the ftp prompt again, type get current which will initiate the transfer of the "current" file from the jefferson machine to yours. This transfer could take a while, since the file is (right now) so big. When you get another FTP prompt, type quit to get out of FTP. C'est tout. Now the file will be on your system, and you can read it as a mail folder. -malgosia
