Subject: Re: exhibition Date: Wed, 12 Jun 1996 13:56:24 +0100 From: "Theoretical Phys. MSc accnt. 13" <tpmsc13-AT-ic.ac.uk> I quite agree with Stuart, and my negative feelings about art & artists solely stem from the fact that there is so much pretentious crap out there. Surrealists are in generel NOT coverred by this negativity (i wouldn't consider myself surrealist otherwise), and I would only apply the word "art" to surrealism in lack of a better term. We could try to find a platform by making some questionnaire and sending it off to each one in this discussion group. Does anybody have any ideas about this? I'm not thinking about making a third manifesto (at least not yet: but if we really have gotten beyond "ordinary surrealism" in some way, then we should address this point later), nor about introducing some kind of orthodoxy, I'm just saying we should think about what we agree on.... Oh yes, I don't know how imminent the purchase of a scanner was in Leeds.... I might have misunderstood. Anyway, I'm going to visit Kenneth this week-end, are anybody else >from the UK planning to do that too (how about you Stuart?)? Frank
