Only the fact is: Surrealism is a form of art, its works are now
artifacts. Just as every sentence you or I breathe is an artifact... if
it is heard, of course -- interpretation produces the facts of art.

>"Art" is to

But what is this "(sur)reality"? "Complete" is a word that cries out
for guardians. When you can safely do away with _supplements_... I
should say, when the safety-net of a supplement is no longer attractive,
then talk to me about "a more complete reality."

>We can say in regards to "literature" that surrealism began with 'the
word.'

Via interpretation, metaphor is in a constant state of reduction: when
the infinite conversation is over -- that is to say, when universal
death, stagnancy, arrives on our doorstep wrapped neatly in white cloth,
possibly with some religious symbols sewn into the fabric, then all will
be reduced to the WORD. Nothing began with "the word." Not even
Surrealism. "Poetic discovery" is the quest for poetic immortality... a
filling up action... It all began with a "hole in the universe..." the
void in the self. Is there a non-metaphorical word for that?

Dadaism was an attempt to arrive at principles. It's like this: try to
destroy everything, and try damn hard... then whatever is left over,
whatever resists destruction, must be worth saving, must be
irreducible... yeah... But we have not yet done away with governments
and religions and families and ignorance -- Are they worth saving? What
about universities, in which we discuss Surrealism and write papers
about it?

Edward
