It was Eugene Ionesco, I believe, who said "we'll march backward and be
in the forefront of history." As we near the end of the current
millenium, I yearn to make the connection between the dada movement of
the early 20th century with the completely overblown bizarro movement of
society in the late 20th century. Does not the Clinton debacle seem
reminiscent of the Breasts of Tiresias? Gaseous infatuation on the
highest political level with the bulbous affectations of the coarsest
level. Does anybody here have pithy statements or poignant reminiscence
of le theatre absurd. I slip. I prod. Shall I leave the ball early? I no
longer feign bucolic dispepsia. PostScript. Anybody have knowledge of
Author Mervyn Peake?
