Subject: Re: Who we are (and how to proceed with reading)

Let me first put forth a proposal for how to proceed with the reading.
Since the book consists of separate essays, I propose that instead
of waiting for everybody to read the book, we post a summary of each
essay, and then proceed to discuss the issues raised by it. The
summary can be posted by anybody who has read the given piece, and
enlarged upon, critiqued or disputed by other readers.

This would allow those who don't have time to do the reading to
familiarize themselves with what is being said in each article
and to actively participate in the discussion; it would also provide
points of focus, since the summaries would undoubtedly be
idiosyncratic -- that's the charm of such endeavors (in my opinion).

As for introductions, I am a street performer, software engineer,
and opportunistic writer; my training is in mathematical logic.
I read unsystematically and have no grounding in theory.
I am a fanatical devourer of non-mainstream movies.
