I am a professor of education at Ohio State; I teach, research and write in
areas of technology, culture, feminism, etc. I guess I'm one of those
educational technology people who hang around the edge ... but the activist in
me tries to talk to the center of educational practice in an effort to disrupt
the hegemony of techno-capitalism in that arena. Like P.K., I have read parts
of the Conley book ... I like the idea of chapter by chapter discussion.

Someone (Erik, I think) brought up an idea that I call "conservation of
freedom" ... I'd like to explore that idea a bit more. In some of my writing,
I have borrowed the idea of conservation from Physics (conservation of mass,
energy), and used it to trouble some of the arguments made by the BUGOMIS (my
shorthand for BUsiness, GOvernment, MIlitary, Science) about education, work,
technology, and $$$$.

I tend to get way behind on reading e-mail as the week progresses, so I'm
usually an apparent lurker ... arguments come to some sort of closure while
accumulating in my mailbox, but I look forward to the discussion, and hope I
will be a contributing member.

Suzanne
