SA-CYBORGS is a discussion list brought to you by the Spoon-Collective

The focus of this list is "South Asian" (a label which no doubt needs to
 be problematized) women

This list began as an attempt to discuss South Asian women's
identity in relation to nationalism(s) and sexual politics - as an offshoot
of a discussion we began on seminar-13.
In the past we have discussed the works of Partha Chatterjee,
Chandra Mohanty, Annanya Bhattacharjee, Spivak, Kalpana Bardhan -
sometimes at length, sometimes very briefly. We have group readings
whenever possible.

CHANGING NATURE OF THE LIST -

While the focus of this is still South Asian women, the
discussions need not address issues regarding identity and feminism alone.
Feel free to discuss any topic that even tangentially affects the lives of
South Asian women - whether they live in the geographical region marked
out as "South Asia" or they live "in diaspora".

Do not hesitate to post a message because you think your concern is
"trivial". However, be aware that flaming does occur every now and then.
	I hope this list will
be a place where both academic and non-academic discussion will intersect.

Creative writing - (my special bias is for work that experiments with
form etc in an attempt to better express the South Asian woman's
experience) - is most welcome. If anyone is interested in starting an
interactive poem or prose work, please feel free to start ....
(or continue someone else's work:-)). This can be a lot of fun. Besides,
what better way to share and compare experience?

The list is OPEN to all. RUDE, SEXIST, RACIST AND OTHER OFFENSIVE POSTS WILL
 NOT BE TOLERATED.

Although this list is moderated, I cannot guarantee a protected
atmosphere. The archives - like all other spoon archives - will be placed
 at a website.

Every now and then, discussions on this list may intersect or be
continuations of discussions on the postcolonial list, and
 the third-world women list.
