That sounds great, the suggestion of reading, working together. This list
has really perked up, and I'm glad I'm back on it after a short time away.
How about if we were to introduce ourselves on this list. Perhaps I'm a
relatively new participant . . .

I'm Mirangela Buggs, currently studying in the Gender Studies/Feminist
Theory department at the New School for Social Research. I'm am
African-North American, not technically from the third world, but as a
person of color from the U.S. I believe that there are many similarities
between women of color in the U.S. and women in the third world, and
thus I am here for solidarity's sake and from my own experience being of
the African diaspora. I have also lived for an extended amount of time in
Central America and for a short time in India studying women's issues
and movements for social change.

This idea of justifying being a non-Western feminist brings to mind my
own struggle of justifying being a Black/women of color feminist. I get a
lot of critique from my family who believes that feminism is a white thing.
I am also enrolled in this graduate program where theories and writings
of third world women and women of color from the U.S. are marginalized
and not dealt with enough, and there is a battle going on what with U.S.
women of color and third world women being aligned on this issue of
exclusion . . . So, I'm very into the idea of sharing more, reading,
producing work together, if I may.

I'd love to know more about other women on this list, if people are willing.

Mirangela
