Our organization is holding a conference on whiteness and white American
culture this November.  We would like to see participation by women of color
(and indeed we have some commitments already) on this important topic.  I
invite members of third-world-women to consider participating as attenders
and/or presenters.  Our announcement is included below.

CONFERENCE on WHITENESS and WHITE AMERICAN CULTURE

To be held November 8 & 9 at the Quaker Meetinghouse and Conference
Center in Burlington, New Jersey. We invite you to come and take a
multicultural and multidisciplinary look at whiteness and white
American culture.

It is the mission of the Center for the Study of White American
Culture (www.euroamerican.org) to examine white American culture
in the context of the greater American culture. Both insiders and 
outsiders to the culture are needed to make this examination
an effective one. 

Whiteness and white American culture have come under increasingly
serious scrutiny by scholars and activists in the 1990s. Always a
topic of concern among communities of color, the examination of
whiteness is now being joined by white scholars examining their
culture from within.

Contributions to this process have been made by antiracism
activists, attorneys, clergy, counseling psychologists, diversity
consultants, educators, feminists, historians, human resource
trainers, literary critics, poets, organization development professionals, 
social activists, social psychologists, social workers, sociologists, 
and students and faculty of ethnic and American studies programs.

We hope to assemble and acknowledge the many representatives from
these disciplines, along with other interested persons, for a
public discussion of this important topic.
