In sisterhood and with apologies for cross post, Lynette. =============FROM THE COMMITTEE IN DEFENSE OF IRAQI WOMEN’S RIGHTS November 3, 2000. In recent weeks the Iraqi regime has beheaded at least 60 women accused of prostitution. Ali Hassan Al-Majeed, a military commander, began the campaign by killing 10 women suspected of prostitution in the city of Mousil. Subsequently, special military forces led by U’day, the older son of Saddam Hussein, killed another 50 women, all charged with prostitution, in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital. The governmental women’s organisation, known as the “ General Union of Iraqi Women" played a major role in this sadistic operation by informing authorities of the women's prostitution. The killings were unimaginably barbarous. All 60 women were decapitated with swords, and their heads then publicly displayed on the door at the entrance of their home for several days. There are also reports that women, including a woman doctor just three days ago, are being falsely accused of prostitution to legitimize their political execution. The Committee in Defense of Iraqi Women's Rights asks that individuals and/or organizations worldwide join them in condemning this sadistic campaign by forwarding the below statement to "CDIWR" <tomah-AT-ihug.com.au> ....................................................................... I/We strongly condemn the beheading of women accused of prostitution in Iraq, and demand that the Iraqi authorities: 1- Immediately end the brutal slaughter of women accused of prostitution 2. Bring those involved in this vile campaign to justice. 3. Allow women working as prostitutes to organize a union for their own protection 4. Actively assist prostitutes, individually or via their union, to find alternative means of livelihood. Name Organization [if applicable] City Country .
